Reinhardt Closes 2021 in Style on Senior Day
By Mike DeVader, Reinhardt Director of Athletic Communications & Media
WALESKA, Ga. – The top-ranked Eagles celebrated Senior Day on Saturday afternoon as they wrapped up the regular season inside Ken White Field at University Stadium with a commanding 20-5 victory over the Knights of St. Andrews (N.C.).
The positive outcome helped Reinhardt head to the postseason with a perfect record at 12-0 and 7-0 inside the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC).
"Very happy with how my guys sent the seniors out with a conference win," head coach John Snow said. "We played a very solid game; did a great job on faceoffs (JR Sess) and wing ground balls (Carter Maurice and Matt Potvin). When we can win 80 percent of the faceoffs, it really allows our offense to dominate time of possession and find our mismatches. I felt like we shared the ball nicely and got goals from a number of different guys. It's tough for a defense when we're sharing the ball, and everyone is getting shots. My defense was very solid as usual. I thought they communicated well and were where they needed to be on slides and back-side help. They were aggressive and played body nicely.
"It's great to see this team get excited for each other and continue to improve. Now, it's win-or-go-home time."
The visitors were able to make the opening play of the day in the rain as they found the back of the net in less than two minutes to take the early 1-0 advantage. One minute later, the hometown team responded with the first of four-straight goals to wrap up the opening quarter.
Stanza two started with three-consecutive goals for the Eagles – a 7-0 run – before the Knights got two scores in the next three to pull within five at 8-3. Zane Anderson capped off the first half with a goal and took his team to the locker room ahead, 9-3.
Like it had done most of the year, Reinhardt stormed out of the gate in the third period and put the match to rest with a 6-0 quarter. With the final 15 minutes on the clock, and the score now 15-3, the hometown club made three more shots (18-3) before both schools alternated goals the rest of the way.
Anderson led a wide-spread scoring attack with four goals. Additionally, three others (Tyler Chavous, Conner Mills and Gavin Banks) netted three attempts as well.
Dillan Bousquet was out-front with four assists to go along with a score.
Matt Webb made seven saves and gave up just four tallies in nearly 55 minutes of action. JR Sess (20-of-22) owned faceoffs against the Knights.
