Men's Lacrosse Controls Bees in Dominating 26-3 Win
By Mike DeVader, Reinhardt Director of Athletic Communications & Media
WALESKA, Ga. – No. 1 men's lacrosse officially clinched the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) title all by itself on Thursday night after it dismantled the Bees of SCAD-Savannah (Ga.), 26-3, at Ken White Field at University Stadium.
The Eagles improved to 11-0 (6-0 AAC) after starting both halves like their hair was on fire with eight goals in the first and nine tallies in the third.
"Great team win tonight," head coach John Snow said. "Very happy with how my guys executed offensively and defensively. We were able to dominate time of possession, which allows us to dictate the pace of play and run our offense effectively. We took advantage of our mismatches and shared the ball nicely. We took high-quality shots, and when the ball was on the ground, we worked hard to get it back. Defensively, Fisher Nuss played an outstanding game and really controlled his matchup.
"I liked how we locked down SCAD's offense by not really giving them many good looks. One more conference game to go, and I am happy with how we're playing right now."
Reinhardt scored back-to-back goals to begin the match before the Bees found the back of the net to cut the deficit to 2-1. From there, SCAD-Savannah had no answers on either side of the field.
The Eagles would finish the quarter on a 6-0 run and head to halftime outscoring their visitors, 10-0, over the final 22:29 of the opening half.
The scoring spree wasn't done there, however, as the hometown club netted five more shots to start the third (17-1) – capping off a 15-0 run – before the Bees celebrated their second score with 7:08 remaining in the third stanza (one in which Reinhardt finished with a four-goal run).
SCAD-Savannah made it 21-3 in the opening moments of the final period, but wouldn't score again the rest of the way, as the Eagles put together a string of five-straight makes to end the night.
Individually, Kyle Banks led the way with four scores, while a slew of teammates – six players – registered three goals each in the romp.
Dillan Bousquet and Zane Anderson, who each scored three times, had four and three assists, respectively.
Reinhardt totaled 42 ground balls, and JR Sess continued to be strong at the face-off position to go along with 10 ground balls.
Matt Webb played nearly 53 minutes and made 10 stops in 12 chances.
The final outing of the regular season is on Saturday, as Senior Day will be celebrated against the Knights of St. Andrews (N.C.).
The matchup is set to begin at Noon.
