WEST POINT, Ga. – No. 1 Reinhardt opened road competition within the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) with a bang after the Eagles netted 11 goals in the first quarter to leave no doubt in a 23-0 outcome over Point (Ga.) on Tuesday afternoon.
The defense was outstanding, and the offense was widespread throughout the roster as Zane Anderson – who had four goals on five shots – helped the hometown team to a 7-0 record overall and a 2-0 mark in the league.
"Solid team win today on the road against a conference opponent," head coach John Snow said. "Proud of my defense... Any time you can play 60 minutes and not give up a single goal is a very good day defensively. Offensively, I like how we were able to score right out the jump and were very efficient with our shooting. It allowed our younger guys and second-team guys to get a lot of playing time and game experience, which is invaluable.
"Happy with where we are as a team right now."
Carter Maurice got his club on the board just 59 seconds into the matchup and the rout was on. Reinhardt would score early and often – while sprinkling in momentum-carrying goals at the beginning of quarters or in the final seconds of periods.
A slew of Eagles found their names in the scorebook multiple times, including Cameron Cochran (3), Brady Hanak (3), Conner Mills (2), Titus Thind (2) and Tyler Wilkinson (2).
In total, 13 players earned tallies in the victory over the Skyhawks. They outshot the opposition, 47-7, with 34 of them coming on-goal.
Reinhardt was also able to rotate goalies in the cage after three Eagles: Matt Webb (15:00), Turner Cho (29:40) and Liam Wright (15:20).
The visitors also gathered 28 ground balls.
More road AAC action is on deck for the nation's top team, as a trip to Cumberlands (Ky.) is set for Saturday at 1 p.m.
