CARTERSVILLE, Ga. – Reinhardt women's cross country had another successful run in the second meet of the year in the Stan Sims Invitational on Friday evening, as the squad saw more strong finishes against top teams from the NAIA and NCAA.
Sophie Davis once again led the Eagles individually in the 5K with a time of 20:31, which was good enough for 32nd overall and the fifth-best finisher of the non-NCAA Division I group and first amongst NAIA foes on the night.
"The women's race went out a little quicker than expected and pull our ladies along a little faster than I had hoped," head coach Jordan Turner said. "The course and conditions were by far the toughest we will see all season so all the ladies should great resolve in continuing to move up through the pack and advance positons.
"For the ladies to defeat a pair of NCAA Division I teams and an NAIA team in Dalton State, who we have never defeated before, shows what tremendous gains these ladies have made in the last year. I'm very pleased to where these ladies can lead this program this year."
Coming in second for Reinhardt was Shelby Rensel (21:09), and a few seconds behind her was Savannah Rice in third (21:21). Rounding out the top five was Casey Bolan and Melanie Gerdes, who finished in 22:18 and 22:25, respectively.
The Eagles posted a cumulative team time of 107:44 as 87 runners participated.
Reinhardt now has three weeks off to get its legs and prepare for the Royals Challenge at McAlpine Creek Park on Sept. 29.
