Lady Eagles Place Second at Opening Meet

CANTON, Ga. - Reinhardt's women's cross country team had a solid start to the 2016 season, finishing in second out of five teams at the Reinhardt Invitational at Boling Park Friday evening.
Shelby Rensel set a new school record for the 4000-meter distance as she crossed the line in 16:31.44. That run was over a minute faster than the previous record, set last year by Savanah Rice at the Dalton State meet. Rice was RU's second-best runner on the night, bettering her time from last year as well with a 16:45.76. The duo would finish the meet in sixth and seventh overall, respectively.
Jazzmine Gonzalez and Melanie Gerdes would be Reinhardt's next finishers. Gonzalez placed 11th with a time of 17:36.23. Gerdes was one slot back with a time of 17:42.19. Ansley Avera finished in 18:00.41, good for RU's fifth-best finish in 15th overall.
Reinhardt's average time of 17:19.23 was two minutes faster than last year's opening meet at Dalton State.
Also running for the Lady Eagles were Jenna Chance (18:09.65 - 17th), Pam Lalo (18:21.89 - 18th), Kaylee Rinesmith (18:54.15 - 22nd), Anna Mills (19:27.91 - 24th), Kelsey Dawson (20:36.94 - 27th), and Bella Gonzalez (22:18.77 - 34th).
All of RU's runners had personal-best times at the 4000-meter distance.
RU finished second to SCAD Atlanta, which had five of the top six finishers to score 16 total points. The Lady Eagles had 53 points, besting Appalachian Athletic Conference foes Bryan (75 points) and Point (83 points). Miles was fifth with 149 points.
