Reinhardt's women's cross country team came home in eighth out of 11 schools at the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championship Meet Saturday morning in Knoxville, Tenn.
"Our women were able to compete well in terrible conditions that made the course extremely slow by the time they ran," said RU head cross country coach Jordan Turner. "The ladies put themseleves in the position to have a better finish than last year but injuries derailed us a bit at the end."
On a cold and rainy morning, freshman Savanah Rice wrapped up her solid maiden season by leading the Lady Eagles with a time of 22:07.19, good for 30th place overall. Next was Melanie Gerdes with a 22:42.42 for a 34th place mark. Jazzmine Gonzalez was next with a 23:08.53. Reinhardt's fourth and fifth times came from Shelby Bennett and Kaylee Rinesmith, who clocked a 24:44.81 and 24:50.61, respectively.
Also competing for Reinhardt were Cameron Hawkins (25:24.73), Ansley Avera (25:27.58), Anna Mills (26:39.24), Kelsey Dawson (26:52.84), and Haley Mewborn (30:46.85).
