Personal-Bests Abound at Sand Shark
October 24, 2015
All seven Reinhardt women's cross country runners had season-low times, including four personal-bests, as the Lady Eagles placed 22nd out of 28 full teams at the Sand Shark Invitational, hosted by the University of South Carolina Beaufort in Hardeeville, S.C.
"I'm thrilled that we had some of the best performances in many years," said RU head coach Jordan Turner. "I'm very glad for all of the runners that gave everything they had towards the team and individual goals in this race."
Savanah Rice nearly broke the 20-minute barrier, finishing in 20:09,21 for the freshman runner's personal-best time and a 57th place finish. Freshman Melanie Gerdes also had a personal-best time with a 21:38.05. Next was Jazzmine Gonzalez, who clocked a 21:59.25. Sophomore Shelby Bennett had a 22:54.69, with fellow sophomore Ansley Avera setting a personal-best with a 23:41.13.
Cameron Hawkins (23:57.16) and Kaylee Rinesmith (24:15.50) also ran for the Lady Eagles, with Rinesmith setting a personal-best.
As a team, the Lady Eagles averaged 22:04, which is the best time for the squad since 2006 and nearly one minute faster than the team's time in the same meet last year.
The Lady Eagles will be back in action in Knoxville, Tenn., Nov. 7 at the Appalachian Athletic Conference championship meet.
