Eagles Place 2nd in AAC Tournament & Secure Spot in 2024 National Tournament
Kingsport, TN - In a spirited contest at the 2024 AAC Championship in Kingsport, TN, the Reinhardt University Eagles fell short against the CIU Rams, with a final score of 1-3 in favor of CIU on Saturday evening. Despite a strong fight and notable individual performances, the Eagles could not clinch the title. However, due to the Eagles strong season and finish, they secured a spot in the NAIA National tournament, which will be played this upcoming weekend.
The Eagles staged a resilient fight in the four-set battle. The match opened with a notable comeback in the first set, won by Reinhardt 27-25, offering a glimpse of their tenacious spirit. However, the subsequent sets saw the Rams taking over, winning 25-20, 25-23, and a close 28-26 in the final set, thereby securing the championship.
Key players for Reinhardt included Emma Ponkova with 11 kills and 6 blocks, Juliette Baffico contributing 10 kills, 2 blocks, 14 digs, and an ace, and Jenna Smith also adding 10 kills. In the realm of defense, Silvia Aguado led with 35 digs and also delivered a solid offensive game with the highest number of aces (4). Ashlynn Barnes, setting the pace with 49 assists, played a crucial role throughout the game.
