Montgomery, AL – The Reinhardt women's volleyball team opened up their season with 4 matches at the Faulkner Invitational over the weekend. 

The first game of the weekend took place on Friday against William Carey. Reinhardt ultimately lost in 3-sets but the Eagles showcased many skilled players that shows for a promising season. Offensively, the Eagles were led by sophomore, Jenna Smith, who had 11 total kills (.226) and freshman, Giulia Julve, who totaled 8 kills. Julve also led in digs with 9. Ashlynn Barnes totaled 21 assists and 2 aces. 

The second match followed on Friday night against nationally ranked #19 St. Thomas University and the STU Bobcats ultimately took the match. The Eagles offense was spread out but was led by Guilia Julve with kills. Faith Breitbarth and Jenna Smith each added 6. Ashlynn Barnes totaled 20 assists and added 3 service aces. Defensively, Emma Ponkova had 4 total blocks, while Silvia Aguado and Julve each had 8 digs.

Then, on Saturday, RU matched up against Williams Baptist and took the 3-0 sweep (25-23, 25-10, 25-11). Once again, Guilia Julve lead the Eagles' offense, totaling 9 kills. Caroline Curry added 8 kills and Jenna Smith added 7. Ashlynn Barnes was the winning setter, totaling 24 assists and added 2 aces. Defensively, Silvia Aguado led with 13 digs. Emma Ponkova and Caroline Curry each had 3 blocks. 

Finally the Eagles played Texas A&M Texarkana and ultimately lost in 4-sets. The stats have yet to be uploaded so are TBA.

Up next, the Eagles will be playing at Columbia International in a tournament. The first match will be this upcoming Friday, August 30th, against Michigan-Dearborn at 3pm.
