Eagles Fall to CIU in Home AAC Match
Waleska, GA – The Reinhardt women's volleyball team played undefeated CIU on Saturday afternoon and came up short in the 3-0 loss to the Rams (3-0; 30-28, 25-19, 25-21).
The RU fans and students were loud and on their feet to make their presence known, especially in the first set. The first set was point for point for the entirety of the match up and then Reinhardt was able to get the set point thanks from a kill from Kuliette Baffico which forced CIU to call a timeout. Coming out of the timeout, CIU scored on a kill of their own to tie the game back up at 25 a piece. RU went on to have another chance to close out the match but unfortunately came up short 30-28.
In set two, CIU maintained their momentum from the set before and went on a 11-3 run. Reinhardt did a great job closing the gap and made it a 17-16 game. But with another run from CIU, the Rams were able to close out set two 25-19. Set three started the same way with CIU up 9-4. Then with a few CIU errors and a kill from Faith Breitbarth and Jenna Smith, the Eagles were down 10-9. Although RU stayed close behind, they couldn't catch up and lost 25-21.
CIU had a very strong offense and defense, but this should give RU confidence that they can hang with a 16-0 team. Reinhardt is now sitting with a 11-3 record overall and a 4-2 record in AAC. The Eagles next game will be an away match at Brenau on Tuesday, September 26th.
Thoughts from Coach B:
"First and most importantly, win or lose, all the Honor and Glory goes to God. I want to give a big thank you and shoutout to our Reinhardt fans. The energy was great in the gym today! CIU is undefeated for a reason and they looked the part today. They did a great job with their block and defense and shut down a couple of our best offensive weapons. Our players will continue to put the work in and we will keep improving as individuals and as a team.
I was very happy with how our girls fought and never gave up until the final whistle was blown. We, of course would have loved to close out set 1 but I think the girls gained a lot of confidence from today's match."
