Lady Eagles Rise to Fifth at AAC Championship
With four more points in Thursday's second day of competition, Reinhardt's women's track & field team finished in fifth place at the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championship in Johnson City, Tenn.
RU's points on Thursday both came from the same event. Sam Croce and Katelyn Wienbarg each cleared 1.37m in the high jump to finish in a three-way tie for second, just .05m out of first place.
The Lady Eagles had plenty of good marks that were just out of scoring range for the event. Kasey Dean was sixth in the discus with a mark of 30.42m, just .15m out of fourth place. Croce was fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 8.85m. In the javelin, RU's best performer from day one, Dani Cutlip, nearly scored again for RU, placing in fifth in the javelin with a distance of 25.01m. Dean and Cameron Hawkins also competed, finishin in 11th and 12th, respectively.
In track events, Wienbarg and Shelby Bennett were seventh and eighth in the 400m Hurdles. Jazzmine Gonzalez was seventh in the 800m run, with Hawkins placing 11th. Cutlip was seventh in the 100m dash, with Kaylee Rinesmith 15th in the 5000m run. Reinhardt's 4x400m relay team of Hawkins, Ansley Avera, Cutlip, and Gonzalez finished in fourth.
