Reinhardt Knocks Off #8 Xavier at Bridgemill
Canton, GA - Reinhardt Men's and Women's Tennis were back in action again at Bridgemill Athletic Club for another home matchup after playing on Tuesday. This time, the opponent was the #3 NAIA-ranked Women and #8 ranked Men of Xavier (LA), which made for a very competitive day at Bridgemill.
The Women's Team had a tough day winning just one doubles match and one singles match, however, two of the five single matches that they lost went three sets. Mia Hoeddinghaus won her match in the sixth position 6-1, 6-4 over her opponent. In doubles, the superb duo of Nina Thomet and Pilar Becerra won 6-4. Camila Neyra again went to three sets again just like her singles match against Young Harris coming up just short of a win. Thomet was the other that came up just short in singles going three sets in the fourth position.
On the Men's side, the Eagles won two of the three doubles matches to gain the point. The second-position doubles team of Zak Khalil and Juan Vallejo won 6-4 against their Xavier opponent and the third-position team of Nik Hensberg and Fede Zeiter who won 6-2.
In singles, Luchi Fisicaro won in the first position 7-5, 2-6, 6-4. Fisicaro is proving to be one of the better #1 singles players in the NAIA and can compete with anyone. Also winning for the Eagles was Khalil in the third spot, 6-7, 6-3, 6-3' Pol Masfret 6-3, 7-5 in the fourth spot' and Juan Vallejo in the sixth position 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 to take four points for the Eagles.
This was a big win for Men's Team who are currently ranked #23 in the NAIA, however, wins like this against Top 10 opponents should see the Eagles creep up the standings.
Next up for the Eagles will be a three-match series for the men's and women's teams in Macon, GA versus Cumberland (TN) on Friday and Coastal Georgia and Middle Georgia State on Saturday. After this, the team will gear up for conference play starting in March.
