NAIA Names Fernandez a First Team All-American
By Mike DeVader, Reinhardt Director of Athletic Communications & Media
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Stephanie Fernandez made women's tennis history at Reinhardt on Tuesday after she was named a First Team NAIA Women's Tennis All-American by the NAIA All-America Selection Committee.
Fernandez, a Caracas, Venezuela, native, is the first student-athlete in program history to earn any type of All-America honor from the NAIA.
The freshman helped the Eagles to an overall 8-8 record and a bid in the 2021 NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship. Additionally, Fernandez and company helped Reinhardt make waves on the court last week in Mobile, Ala., as the 18th-seeded Eagles took down No. 15 San Diego Christian (Calif.), 4-1, in the first round of the National Championship.
The win pushed the club to 8-7 on the campaign as it claimed its first NAIA postseason victory as a program.
Fernandez teamed up with Tayla Kruger to take down the Hawks in No. 2 doubles, 6-3. She then moved to 2-0 on the day with a 6-4, 6-3 outcome on line one in singles action.
