Eagles Take Sting Out of Bees, Women Upset No. 19 SCAD-Atlanta

CANTON, Ga. – It was a great afternoon on the tennis courts at BridgeMill Tennis Club for both Reinhardt Eagle squads on Friday, as the fifth-ranked men swept SCAD-Atlanta (7-0) and the women's team pulled off the upset, 5-2, over the 19th-ranked Bees.
The Reinhardt women improve to 3-4 on the year and move to .500 in Appalachian Athletic Conference play with a 2-2 mark. The men stay unbeaten at 6-0 (3-0 AAC).
Doubles play was very kind to the women on this day, as the Eagles went 3-0 to earn a 1-0 lead after the tone was set from the following pairs: Glauka Carvajal/Ana Rodriguez (7-5), Stephanie Fernandez/Tayla Kruger (6-2) and Taylor Nelson/Elise Standing (6-1).
Reinhardt would then put together one of its best stretches off tennis this year, taking four singles outing and only dropping two. Rodriguez got a win at line two (7-6, 6-2), and was joined by Carvajal at No. 3 (6-1, 6-4), Standing in the five spot (5-1) and Nelson at line six (0-6, 6-4, 11-9).
The guys continued to roll as they took all three doubles contest as well, and were led by the duo of Sam Alexander/Jordi Puig Molina in the top spot with a 6-3 victory. A 6-2 triumph followed on line two (Pau Pujadas/Federico Gomez and then the Eagles also took the third competition as well.
In singles action, the No. 1 spot went to Martin Mendoza, 6-3, 6-1, while line two (6-2, 6-1) went the way of Artem Vasheshnikova. The victories wouldn't stop there, as Masumi Komada won a No. 3 battle at 6-1, 6-2 and Esteban Federico Sued was victorious in the four hole with a 6-2, 6-1 final.
Tennessee Wesleyan comes to town on April 1 in a 1 p.m. matchup.
