Columbia, SC - The Reinhardt women's soccer team traveled to South Carolina on Saturday afternoon to compete the Columbia College Koalas in an AAC match-up. Unfortunately, the Eagles cam up short in the 1-0 contests. However, there is a long season left and the Eagles will be ready to bounce back in the next match. The Eagles now sit with an AAC record of 2-1 and are 2-3 overall.
Unlike their animal counterpart, the Koalas would strike fast as within six minutes they would already have the lead over the Eagles. From then on, the game would go from soccer to chess as the Eagles would look for every possible maneuver to break past Columbia's stonewall defense. Despite having eight shots on target, the Eagles would be unable to bring it back in the first half.
They entered the second half with renewed enthusiasm. It was a tough mental battle in front of the away fans and a ticking clock, but the Eagles refused to back down as their magisterial plays would see them rack up another nine shots, with Sarah Taylor leading the line. Ultimately, their efforts would not be rewarded as the game would end 1-0 for the Koalas' first conference win of the season.
Up next, the Eagles will return to South Carolina this upcoming Wednesday, September 18th, for an AAC match-up at Columbia International at 4pm.
