A Penalty Shot Put-Back is the Difference in #9 Life University Game
Waleska, GA - The energy of the day was sizzling, and Reinhardt came out to warm up with the energy and intensity that had brought them so much success in recent years. Life University is no easy foe having beat their last two opponents with 12 goals and zero conceded. Both teams will be sure to go talon to talon in an exciting match.
The game began with a roaring battle of the midfield as Reinhardt's fire and determination served as the perfect pivot between a reinvigorated offense and the stonewall defense. Going forward they were able to earn a good number of fouls from the Life defense which led to set-piece opportunities, taken by senior Marta Vicente Arche. There were also numerous wonderful through balls that just missed the mark in the final third thanks to goalkeeping heroics from Life. Life's only goal came after a wonderful penalty save by Sarah Bamrick deflected into the path of a Life University forward against the run of play.
Reinlights of the first half
- Reece Wise's run in from a beautiful Riley Welsh spin into a chip-through ball.
- Madeline Myers's dynamite workrate through the midfield.
- Molina's positioning on and off the ball.
The second half had the same dynamics as the first half with both teams going back and forth in a tense stalemate. Reinhardt showed sparks of brilliance stemming from beautiful 1-2 touch passing plays but was unlucky not to find the back of the net.
Reinlights:
- Kennedy Vineyard's lockdown defensively.
- Abbey Craig's runs down the line.
- Jenna Bruce's ball movement into the midfield to streamline attacks!
Bambrick ended the day with six saves from seven shots on goal behind a defense that held a high-scoring offense to one goal. Sarah Bruce, newcomer Lois Mattock, and Vineyard are part of a solid backline that has played toe-to-toe with a few of the NAIAA's best. Offensively, the team will need to gel behind the veteran Marta Vincente Arche, who is a proven scorer. Wise, Jenna Bruce, Bella Sewel, and other frontline attackers are showing signs of a potent offense working with Vincente Arche. The offense was credited with three shots on goal which is a stat that will need to increase as the season progresses.
Reinhardt will play again on Sunday, Sept 1st, at 2 pm versus Rocky Mountain at a neutral site in Lawrenceville, GA. There are a few early season injuries to a few players that will have a chance to heal some during the week. Once the AAC season starts on Saturday, Sept. 7th, the team will be battle-tested and ready to finish the season strong. Traditionally, they compete each season for the top spot in the AAC, and this season should not be any different.
