Women's Soccer Trains with Navy Seals for Upcoming Season
August 7, 2024
Waleksa, GA - Reinhardt Women's Soccer has created a tradition of participating in Navy Seals training at the beginning of each season. The Eagles ground it out in the hot August heat for team bonding, small group training, and leadership skills to help the team come together for the 2024 season. Reinhardt will begin its season on Wednesday, August 21st at Ken White Field versus the NAIA Defending National Champion - Cumberlands Patriots. The Eagles narrowly lost last season 1-0 so the team will get a good idea of where they stand early.
The Eagles trained with two retired Navy SEALS from the Acumen Performance Group. Founding partners Bill Hart and Mark Walker conducted 5 hours of classroom training and 2 hours of field exercises to build a team-first winning attitude. Bill Hart is a 20-year Navy SEAL veteran with expertise in Intelligence ops and Master Training Specialist. Mark Walker is a 20-year Navy Special Warfare Combatant Craft Crewman veteran. Acumen Performance Group has trained The Atlanta Falcons, Dallas Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers, Washington Commanders, Pittsburgh Pirates, and the Gold Medal-winning US water polo team.
After an intense day of learning and training, the team made a Mission Statement that will be used from this day forward to keep everyone focused on achieving excellence in every area of life.
Coach Andy Kaplan had this to say about the SEALS training, "Today was an incredible day for our soccer program. It was only the third day our 2024 team had been together, and in a matter of hours, we were transformed from a group of individuals into a team. I witnessed an incredible player-driven exercise that created a mission statement that will define our program from this day forward. Acumen Performance Group bilingual is a foundation for us that will guide us towards excellence in everything we do."
Junior Abbey Craig added, "What an amazing experience! Acumen Performance Group helped us become a close-knit group even though half of our team is just beginning their college careers. We collectively agreed to better ourselves every day whether we are on or off the field. I look forward to creating a legacy we will leave behind for all future women's soccer players at Reinhardt University."
The Eagles trained in the morning on the field to avoid the heat of the day, but it was still a hot training session. The team pushed through doing small group training where each person had the chance to demonstrate their leadership skills and work with others in their group to achieve common goals.
Forward Belle Seward gave her thoughts on facing her fears, "I learned so many things today that will help me in my soccer career but also in all areas of my life for many years to come. I previously feared failure. Bill and Mark taught me that learning from your failures is one of the best ways to develop into a better player and person. I also want to learn to be comfortable being uncomfortable."
"Today's training will help our team mentally and physically", said newcomer Addison Attaway. "I am confident that we will be a tough and successful team."
The Eagles graduated some great talent and experienced leaders from last year's team, however, there is still a solid core in place that is ready to get this season going with top-level talent that was added by a few transfers and freshmen. It should be another exciting year at Ken White Field for Reinhardt Women's Soccer!
