Williamsburg, KY - The Eagles continued their tough early season schedule on Saturday afternoon on the road taking on the Patriots of Cumberlands (Ky). This is the second straight game facing a Top team in the NAIA with the first being the loss to #5 ranked William Carey.
Reinhardt will face four Top 20 teams in the first four games so things do not get any easier going forward.
After the William Carey game from earlier in the week, Coach Andy Kaplan noted after the game that the team needed to concentrate on defending better and the team definitely improved in that area as they would hold the #4 ranked team to just one goal and nine shots on goal.
Sarah Bambrick had another good for the Eagles only allowing the one goal and recording 8 saves. In just two games, Bambrick has already saved 19 shots.
The Patriots scored their goal early in the second half, which had the Eagles scrambling for the equalizing goal the rest of the way.
Ryelyn Wells and Lidia Herrera were able to get two shots on goal for the Eagles, but this is an area that the Eagles must improve upon as the season progresses.
The team is a good mix of experienced veterans and younger newcomers ready to make their mark at the college level so it will take some time for the team to gel. By the time the Eagles are ready for their first conference game, they will be very experienced in what NAIA soccer is all about. The improvement from game one to game two was tremendous and you can expect things to keep moving this way as the team faces #17 SCAD Savannah next Saturday and the #3 Keiser on Labor Day on the campus of SCAD.
The first home game for the Eagles will be September 16th with an AAC matchup with the Koalas of Columbia College.
