DAYTON, Tenn. – The Ryelyn Wells and Lauren Akemon show continued in Tennessee on Wednesday night as the duo combined for all three Eagle goals against Bryan (Tenn.) as they helped beat the Lions, 3-1, to stay perfect in league play at 8-0.
Reinhardt is now 8-2 overall.
"It was a very hard-fought game tonight," head coach Andy Kaplan said. "Bryan was the most aggressive team we have played all year. Our team did a good job of attacking Bryan's weaknesses and defending as a group. I think we learned a lot tonight about how difficult every conference game can be."
Wells got her club on the board early in the contest in the third minute after a nice find from Adriana Garcia. The 1-0 lead didn't last long, however, as Bryan found the net compliments of Macy Gibson at 10:15 into the night.
The Eagles were able to regain the advantage about 15 minutes later after Marta Vicente-Arche found a streaking Akemon for a score and the match-winning goal at 24:15.
The defense was again dominant as it didn't allow another tally in the final 80 minutes and slowed the Lion attack to just seven shot attempts in defeat.
The only offense in the second half came from Lidia Herrera (from Aryn Parrish) as she put a bow on yet another Appalachian Athletic Conference triumph for Reinhardt.
Wells had four of the Eagles' 14 shot attempts.
Defensively, Caroline Johnson had a relatively smooth night with one save and one goal allowed in 90 minutes.
Next up on the schedule is a get-together with the Koalas of Columbia (S.C.) at home Saturday afternoon.
Opening whistle is set for 4 p.m.
