LAURINBURG, N.C. – A tight match in the first half turned into a blowout in North Carolina as the Eagles netted seven second-half goals to fly away from the Knights of St. Andrews, 8-0, on Saturday afternoon.
Jade Seery and Jasmine Usher both scored twice to help the Reinhardt attack, and Marta Vicente-Arche found the back of the net as well; to go along with a pair of assists in the blanking.
"We had a successful road trip," head coach Andy Kaplan said. "We struggled to find our rhythm in the first half, as our timing in front of the goal was off and we lacked aggression defensively. The team was focused at halftime on improving, and a great deal of internal leadership from veteran players put us back in track.
The second half was excellent in every facet of the game. We will hopefully build off of our second half adjustments."
Lauren Akemon got her club on the board in the eighth minute for the only score of the first period on either side. After coming out of the locker room at the break, Seery helped triple the advantage twice in less than a minute at 60:13 and 61:32.
Vicente-Arche then made it 4-0 in a matter of minutes, and then Ryelyn Wells got on the score sheet – first with an assist to Kira Council – and then a goal at 76:57 (from Sierra Ruetten).
The contest was well in-hand when Usher made her presence felt in the dominant performance.
The Eagles (6-2, 6-0 Appalachian Athletic Conference) smothered the Knights in shots gained and surrendered, 33-4. The hometown team also held the lead in corner kicks at 6-1.
The team comes back home for a couple days of practice before heading to Tennessee to take on Bryan on Oct. 6 at 5 p.m.
