GAINESVILLE, Ga. – Three goals in the first 39 minutes, and within four minutes of each other, set the tone on Wednesday night for Reinhardt in a 4-0 shutout at Brenau (Ga.).
The blanking of another Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) foe on the road helped the Eagles improve to 3-2 overall and a perfect 3-0 record in league play.
"I'm very happy with the team's performance tonight as games at Brenau are always challenging," head coach Andy Kaplan said. "We controlled the ball and pace of the game from the kickoff to final whistle. The team has embraced what the coaching staff has emphasized over the last week. We still have room for improvement, but I am confident that we will reach our potential."
It took a little time for the hometown squad to get going offensively, but Marta Vicente-Arche got Reinhardt on the board at 35:04 off an assist from Sierra Ruetten. Less than two minutes later, Kerstyn Thomas doubled the advantage (from Kira Council), but in the blink of an eye, the Golden Tiger deficit was 3-0 after Thomas fed Ashley Frye at 38:27.
Reinhardt again got the entire roster on the field for valuable conference time – and in the 79th minute – Jade Seery grabbed another tally for the Eagles as Vicente-Arche had a nice pass.
The visitors outshot Brenau, 27-3, in the triumph and held a 9-0 spread in corner kicks.
The newest club in the AAC – Johnson (Tenn.) – comes to town on Saturday afternoon for a 2 p.m. matchup at Ken White Field at University Stadium.
