WALESKA, Ga. – Marta Vicente-Arche found the back of the net on a penalty shot at 100:19 in double overtime to help the Eagles slip out of the grasp of the upset-minded Bulldogs of Union (Ky.), 2-1, Monday night at Ken White Field at University Stadium.
With the win, Reinhardt kept its winning ways alive en route to an 8-1 record.
"I'm happy our team was able to find a way to win on a night when our focus and energy were not up to the standard we have set this season," head coach Andy Kaplan said.
The hometown team dominated the stats in regard to shots, 27-2, but missed on multiple occasions to avoid going to extra time at all.
Jasmine Usher got the scoreboard moving in the 33rd minute off a pass from Kalyn Donegan. As the Eagles continued to look for additional tallies, the Bulldogs took advantage of their opportunity to tie the score at 1-1 following a header off a corner kick at the 58:15 mark.
Neither squad would earn another score in regulation despite the majority of ball possession staying closest to the Union goal. As time continued to roll on, so did the physicality, with Reinhardt getting a call in the box to set up the positive outcome.
Vicente-Arche didn't shy away from the spotlight, as she lined up the shot and sent the crowd home happy with the match-winner as her teammates rushed the field.
Three players notched five-or-more attempts on the night on offense, and defensively, Caroline Johnson got another victory in-net after playing the whole contest.
The Knights of St. Andrews (N.C.) are next up on the schedule at 1 p.m. at home.
