WEST POINT, Ga. – There didn't appear to be any rust on the women's soccer team on Thursday afternoon inside River Bowl Stadium, as the Eagles pummeled Point (Ga.) after 12 days off in a 7-0 blanking of the Skyhawks on their home field.
Reinhardt (3-1) has now notched three-straight Appalachian Athletic Conference wins (3-1) after smothering defense led to a slew of players sharing the load on the offensive end in the victory.
"A very solid performance by our team," head coach Andy Kaplan said. "All 22 players were able to make positive contributions towards the victory and our passing continues to improve. Most of our goals were set up by great runs off the ball and very accurate passes to set up the goal scorer."
Brianna Smotherman got the hometown squad on the board in the 16th minute off a nice feed from Marta Vicente-Arche – who was then followed on the scoresheet by Kaitlyn Lauk with a goal at 19:36 for a 2-0 advantage.
The scoring spree would continue less than five minutes later compliments of Lauk once again finding the back of the net for a 3-0 lead that would carry into halftime.
Smotherman would earn her second tally – and do so in similar fashion – after she started the second period with another goal just over eight minutes into the action. Point would hold down the Eagles for the majority of the half from there, but Reinhardt exploded for three scores in less than six minutes (Ashley Hand, 80:04; Jasmine Usher, 84:29; Jade Seery, 85:53).
Reinhardt outshot Point, 21-6, in the triumph and collected 16 attempts on-goal.
Eleven players registered a shot in the match on offense with four assists on seven scores.
Caroline Johnson got the win at goalie after four saves in 59:06.
The road swing continues on Saturday afternoon with a matchup against the Koalas of Columbia (S.C.) at 3 p.m.
