Reinhardt Shuts Down Brenau (Ga.) on Saturday Night, 2-0

WALESKA, Ga. – A pair of second-half goals helped the Eagles overcome a strong effort from Brenau (Ga.) on Saturday night, as Reinhardt notched back-to-back Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) victories following a 2-0 blanking of the Golden Tigers on Senior Night at Ken White Field at University Stadium.
The Eagles are now 2-1 overall (2-1 AAC) after handing Brenau its first blemish of 2020.
"The team had a very good win tonight," head coach Andy Kaplan said. "Brenau has a very good team that will win a lot of games this year. We defended well for the entire game. In the second half, we became more precise with our passing and our forwards created a lot of great opportunities.
"I am excited to see our team continue to grow. It was great to see Lakyn Hager play great during her Senior Night game."
After both teams kind of felt each other out in the first 45 minutes of action, halftime adjustments and a renewed aggression proved-to-be crucial as Channing Pantano broke the scoreless tie less than six minutes into the second half off a feed from Adriana Garcia.
As the defense continued to stifle the Golden Tigers, Marta Vicente-Arche found the back of the net at 63:07 to push the home advantage to a pair – which was all the Eagles needed to wrap up the positive outcome.
Caroline Johnson manned the goal and earned another shutout after she made four stops in a full 90 minutes of play.
The hometown team controlled the ball for most of the match – specifically in the second half – as it outshot Brenau, 13-6, including eight shots on-goal.
Individually, Garcia and Pantano both notched four attempts each.
A three-match road trip is up next, beginning with the Buffaloes of Milligan (Tenn.) on Oct. 10 at 2 p.m.
