Waleska, GA - On a cold, windy night in February, the Eagles Women Lacrosse would hit the field at Ken White Stadium to take on the Skyhawks of Point University for their seaon opener. They would win in dominating fashion over Point, 27-0 with some outstanding play by Shelby O'Neil who scored seven goals on seven shots on goal. She was assisted on several of those goals by Morgan McGhee who ended up with fourteen total assists for the night.
In the first quarter, the attack was always at the end of Point's goal. The goalkeeper for Point had a very busy night with the ball coming at her from all angles and no time to rest between attacks. Most of the time, it was on target and rushing by her into the back of the net. The first quarter would end with the Eagles scoring an incredible 11 goals. The Skyhawks would not get off a shot in the first quarter.
Along with Shelby O'Neil's hat-trick in the first quarter, Macy Fulton, Alyssa Klinger, Jillian Mello, Morgan McGhee, Kelsey Sowa, Anna-Marie Gazzo would get in on the scoring act. Klinger would end up with 3 goals and Gazzo and Mello would have 4 each. It is an incredible number having four players get a hat-tricks in one game.
In the second quarter, the Eagles would add five more making the score 16-0 with some of the repeat names scoring. The third would add seven more goals making the lead 23-0. Hailey Ririe would add her name to the scoring ranks along with Mia Griswold - each scoring their first goals of the game. Ririe would add her name to the scoring column again in the fourth quarter getting the twenty-fifth goal of the night for the Eagles. Anna-Marie Gazzo would get the final goal of the night notching a 27-0.
Jessie Landers was in goal for Reinhardt and did a good job when needed, however, she did not need to make a save the entire match. This puts the Eagles at 1-0 for the season. They will play again on February 25th against Birmingham Southern at Ken White Stadium.
