WALESKA, Ga. – The offense continued to shine for newly-ranked No. 3 Reinhardt at home Wednesday evening, as the Eagles were impressive on both ends of the field in a 27-6 outcome over the visiting Eagles of Asbury (Ky.).
The hometown club (8-1, 7-0 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC)) was paced by Anna-Marie Gazzo and her eight goals (on eight shots) and two assists.
Reinhardt also got a boost earlier in the day when it received word of being slotted No. 3 in the newest NAIA Women's Lacrosse Coaches' Top 10 Poll (View Here) – tied for the highest ranking in team history from 2020 – after the Eagles scooped up 86 voting points in the rating.
"We had a great merge of veterans and freshmen again to power our offense and defense," head coach Roy Reynolds said. "Our draw game was exceptional, especially the performances of Brook Villhauer, Morgan McGhee, Shelby O'Neil and Addy Talkington."
Gazzo kicked off the scoring in just over a minute as Reinhardt jumped out to a 5-0 lead in just under five minutes of action. The visiting Eagles found the back of the net three times in the opening half, but couldn't get back within four points as the host Eagles continually added more tallies to the scoreboard.
A 6-0 run in the last 13:32 pushed the halftime advantage for the hosts to 16-3. Reinhardt would score five more times before Asbury got back on the scoresheet with a goal at 21:49 in the second period. After alternating makes (22-5), the Eagles would finish the matchup on a 5-1 scoring spree to get one step closer to the league title.
Morgan McGhee was another bright spot with 6 draw controls, 4 goals, 4 assists and 3 ground balls. Caroline Copenhaver found the back of the net three times, another trio scored twice and 12 student-athletes registered a goal in total.
The hosts compiled 47 shots, 26 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers.
Jessie Landers (winner) and Emma Sindersine split time in the goal in the positive outcome.
Senior Day is on Saturday at 4 p.m. as the team looks to claim the regular-season AAC championship against the Skyhawks of Point (Ga.).
