EAGLES WIN!!! Women's Golf Wins the TN Wesleyan Spring Invitational!
Athens, TN - The 2023 Reinhardt Women's Golf Team has created history by winning its first tournament. After two days on the course, the team of Lauren Welte, Caroline Goddard, Debbie Blount, Brooke Newsome, and Maggie Mullins were standing on top of the leaderboard at the Tennessee Wesleyan Spring Golf Invitational.
This was a two-round tournament of 36 holes total and the Eagles shot 656 total, which was one stroke better than the second-place finisher, Tennessee Wesleyan. There were seven teams total and six of those teams were from the AAC.
Lauren Welte was the top Eagle finisher coming in second place just one stroke behind the top finisher. She shot 77 in her first round and 79 in her second round for a total of 156. Brooke Newsome was just slightly behind Welte tied for eighth place overall with a total of 164.
Following Welte and Newsome, was Caroline Goddard in fourteenth with a score of 167, Maggie Mullins with a score of 173, and Debbie Bount with a score of 175.
Coach Evans Nichols was extremely excited about the accomplishment of his team and the progress they have shown through the fall season into this spring. Let's hope they keep their momentum going into the final weeks and the start of the AAC Tournament. The AAC Tournament is the next event for the Women's Team, which happens on April 17th & 18th at The Link Hill CC in Greenville, TN. If the golfers qualify, they will compete at the NAIA Nationals at TPC Deere Run in Moline, IL on May 23rd - 26th.
