Eagles Close 18-point Deficit But Fall Short Against Georgetown at “The Show”
Kingsport, TN - In a hard-fought basketball contest on Saturday night, the Reinhardt University Eagles faced a tough defeat at the hands of the Georgetown Tigers in Kingsport, TN, ending with a final score of 63-71. The encounter was part of the NAIA series, 'The Show,' where the Eagles trailed but showcased a remarkable comeback despite the loss.
The Eagles, playing on a neutral court, faced a significant halftime deficit, trailing 25-41 against Georgetown. Yet, the team rallied impressively in the second half, demonstrating resilience and fighting spirit. In fact, The Eagles came back from a 18-point deficit, to tie the Tigers at 49-49 towards the end of the 3rd quarter. Noelle Lavery led the scoring for Reinhardt with 17 points and 9 rebounds, supported by Laphina Campbell who added 12 points. Other notable performances included Na'Yel Camper, who contributed 9 points and a commendable 5 steals, and Lana Van Dyke's defensive prowess was highlighted with 4 rebounds and 2 blocks.
Despite the comeback, spearheaded by strong defensive plays and strategic offense, the Eagles could not bridge the gap fully, ultimately conceding the game to the Tigers.
Looking ahead, the Eagles are set to face the Truett-McConnell Bears this upcoming Wednesday, December 4th, in Cleveland, GA at 5:30pm. The Eagles now stand with a record of 7-3 overall and 4-1 in the AAC, aiming to bring their winning momentum back in the upcoming games.
