UPSET ALERT!! RU WBB Beats #11 University of the Cumberlands in Competitive 72-71 Match-Up!!
Waleska, GA – The Reinhardt women's basketball team played an impressive game and earned the huge upset over #11 nationally ranked, the University of the Cumberlands, on Saturday afternoon. This game also gave the Eagles their 11th straight win as they have not yet been beaten this season.
This game proved to be a very competitive match-up as both teams were tenacious on both ends of the floor. Cumberlands took the lead after the first quarter 26-18, but the Eagles were able to outscore the Patriots in the second and third to head into the final quarter with a 4-point lead. The fourth quarter came down to the wire, and Cumberlands had the 71-68 lead, when RU's Tarrah Gibson scored the tying 3-point shot with 30 seconds left. Finally with 0.1 seconds to go, Ashley Woodroffe was fouled and made the winning free throw to go ahead 72-71 to secure the win.
Ashley Woodroffe led her team offensively with 23 points and 5 assists. Defensively, Maria Sanchez Ponce, earned 10 rebounds.
The Eagles now sit with a 11-0 record overall and are 7-0 in the AAC. The next game for the Eagles will be an away match-up versus AAC opponents, Kentucky Christian, on Tuesday, December 12th, at 5:30pm.
