Eagles Split Two Extra-Inning Games at Montreat

Montreat, NC - Reinhardt Softball has one of their busiest schedules of the season this last week in February.  The team played a doubleheader on campus Wednesday vs Spartanburg Methodist, and then they were back on the road for an AAC matchup with the Cavilers of Montreat University. The team split two extra-inning games on Thursday.  The Eagles came from behind in game one to win 5-4 in nine innings, and then the Cavaliers returned the favor in game two, coming from behind to win 9-8.

Game One

Reinhart threw out three pitchers in this nine-inning game, with Anslie Pettit picking up the win, pitching the final three innings.  Macy Langley got the start for the Eagles and pitched 2.1 innings, striking out 2 batters.  She was relieved by Taylor Haymans in the third inning. Haymans only allowed one hit in her 3.2 innings of pitching. Pettit came in the seventh inning and was able to strike out five batters while only allowing one hit.

The Eagles were down by three runs in the third inning, but they fought their way back behind the bats of Ansley Hight and Maddie Wright.  Wright was 2 for 4 in the game with a double and Ansley Hight was 3 for 4 with three doubles, one run scored and an RBI.  Taylor Wade's bunt in the top of the ninth provided the go ahead run scoring Maggie English.

Reinhardt had a remarkable 7 doubles in the game and a triple by Kylie Freije.

Game Two

Anslie Pettit started game two in the circle and had a great game pitching. She struck out 8 Cavaliers in 6.2 innings.  The six inning was a rough one for the Eagles pitching staff because they gave up 3 runs and allowed Montreat to get back into the game.

Offensively, the Eagles scored plenty of runs to win the game, unfortunately, they were unable to keep Montreat from wiggiling their way back into the game. Maddie Wright and Shalyn Olszowy were both 2 for 4 hitting. Wright had an RBI and Olszowy had one run scored. Ansley Hight homered in the third inning and Taylor Wade tripled. The Eagles had six RBIs in the game by Wright, Hight, Annika Smith, Maggie English , and Addyson Garris.  Garris had two RBIs for the Eagles.
 
The team will continue their busy week with a doubleheader both Saturday and Sunday. AAC opponnent, Union Commonwealth comes iin Saturday and Middle Georgia State will be at Ken White Field on Sunday.
