#25 Eagles Split at Rematch with #9 Georgia Gwinnett
Lawrenceville, GA - The #25 ranked Eagles were on the road with a rematch with the #9 Grizzlies of Georgia Gwinnett. Just about 10 days ago, the two teams battled it out at Ken White Field with the Eagles narrowly losing both games of the doubleheader. The Eagles wanted to get two in the rematch today, but they had to settle with a split. Game one favored the Eagles 6-4 and the second game went to the Grizzlies 5-3.
Game One
Bella Krauth got the start for the Eagles and had control of the game through six innings, but the Grizzlies were able to pick up two runs on her in the bottom of the seventh and Ally Andriano came in to finish out the game and get the save for the Reinhardt win. Krauth had 4 strikeouts total over the six innings but only gave up single runs in the first and fourth innings. Andriano came and recorded one strikeout, but did not allow a hit or run in her inning.

Offensively, the Eagles did plenty in game one to give some cushion to the Reinhardt pitching staff. Jill Martinet got the highlight plays in game one hitting 2 solo home runs giving the Eagles a much-needed boost. Her home runs came in the second and fifth innings. The other offense came from a double from Emily Loveless in the fourth inning that scored two runs. Later in the inning, Alexis Teems singled to third which scored Taylor Wade. Kyra Lightner picked up an RBI in the top of the seventh on a sac fly that scored Ansley Evans.
Loveless was 3 for 4 in the game with two RBIs and Teems was 2 for 4 with one RBI. Martinet was 2 for 2 with the two home runs. In total, the Eagles had 10 hits in the game.
Game Two
The Eagles were not as fortunate in game two as they would face the Grizzlies' top-rated pitcher, Annalise Jarvis. Jarvis picked up a win at Reinhardt two weeks ago and she picked up another one in today's second game. Reinhardt is very familiar with Jarvis from her time playing in the AAC at Bryan College during her freshman campaign. They were able to get a few hits off of her today and had the game tied before going into the top of the seventh inning, but they could not score any more runs in the sixth and seventh to pick up the second win of the day.
Whitney Shepherd got the start for the Eagles in game two and kept the Eagles contending for the win for the majority of the game. She gave up two runs in the bottom of the sixth and that was the difference in the game after the Eagles failed to score in the top of the sixth and seventh.
Shepherd had 2 strikeouts in the game and spread 7 hits over the five innings that she pitched. Again, the arm of Ally Andriano was called up to try to get the Eagles out of the late-inning jam. After the two runs were scored in the bottom of the sixth, Andriano came in to get the final out and gave the Eagles a chance to do something in the top of the seventh.

Offensively, Emily Loveless was the majority of the offense for the Eagles in the second game. She got going early with a triple in the first inning and she was able to score on a wild pitch. Later, Alexis Teems made it on base and found her way to third. She scored in the first inning as well on a sac fly from Ansley Evans.
The last run for the Eagles came in the fifth inning on a double from Loveless which scored Taylor Wade. Loveless led the Eagles hitting going 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Teems was 2 for 2 with a run scored and Wade was 2 for 3 with a run scored.
Reinhardt has shown that they can play among the best teams in the NAIA, however, they will need to learn to pull out games like the second game of the series today if they are going to make it through nationals. They are about to go on a long run of home games, which should help them maintain their spot at the top of the AAC and possibly put some room between them and second-place Truett McConnell. Truett McConnell will be the next doubleheader for the Eagles next Wednesday followed by a series on Friday with CIU. They will wrap up next week with a Saturday series with Pikeville.
