Gulf Shores, AL – The Reinhardt softball team played in the Gulf Shores Tournament this weekend and went 3-1.
The Eagles now sit with a 10-4 record and a 2-0 record in conference play. The next game for RU will be a double-header at home this upcoming Thursday, March 7th, as the Eagles will get a rematch with Saint Xavier, who gave RU their only loss in the tournament. The games are set to play at 10am and 12pm.
Game One: Reinhardt 1, Saint Xavier 3
RU's first game happened on Saturday night as they matched up versus Saint Xavier. The first runs of the game came from Saint Xavier in the 5th inning as they got 2 players across home plate and then another one came in the 7th. The Eagles only run came in the bottom of the 7th with a single up the middle from Hannah Kate Singleton. Hannah Kate Singleton and Molly Stevens each recorded 2 hits, while Singleton had the sole RBI. Whitney Shepherd pitched for the Eagles as she recorded 3 strikeouts.
Game Two: Reinhardt 11, William Woods 0
The next game followed the first one on Saturday night, where the Eagles took down William Woods in a shut-out win of 11-0. The scores for the Eagles started in the 3rd when Emily Loveless hit a 2 RBI home-run. That gave RU all the momentum they needed as they played the rest of the game. In fact, Emily Loveless recorded another home-run in the 5th, to end the game with 3 hits, 4 RBIs, and 2 runs. Ansley Evans, Shelly's Olszowy, and Eryn Lee each recorded an RBI as well. Ally Andriano was the winning pitcher as she struck 9 out, had no errors, and allowed no runs.
Game Three: Reinhardt 4, Houston-Victoria 2
On the second day of the Tournament, the Eagles played Houston-Victoria on Sunday morning and earned the 4-2 win. Houston-Victoria was able to get on the board first with a run in the 1st inning. Then the Eagles answered in the 3rd to get the go-ahead run with the score of 3-1, including a hit from Molly Stevens who scored in 2 runs. Then RU got their 4th and final run in the 5th with a single from freshman, Shelly's Olszowy. Whitney Shepherd was the winning pitcher with 2 strikeouts.
Game Four: Reinhardt 10, Morningside 2
Finally in the 4th and final game, Reinhardt secured the 10-2 win over Morningside to go 3-1 in the tournament. The Eagles got their bats going early, continuing their scoring throughout the entirety of the game to end the game at a early 5-innings. Emily Loveless led with 3 RBIs, including another homerun. Hannah Kate Singleton also recorded 3 RBIs, while Shallyn Olszowy recorded 2. Ally Andriano was the winning pitcher with 3 strikeouts.
