Eagles Take Care of Business and Leave No Doubt
Waleska, Ga. - With the regular season coming to a close, the Eagles are looking to get as many conference wins as possible to increase their chances of moving up some in the standings. Right now, they are sitting in the third position with one conference series left with CIU on Thursday. On Wednesday, they would have their final home series of the season as Johnson (TN) would visit Reinhardt's campus. Johnson had only one conference win coming into Wednesday's game so the Eagles wanted to take care of things early and get the games behind them with a couple of wins. They were able to do just that as both games ended short because of the 8-run rule. Both games were stopped after the fifth innings with game one going to the Eagles, 9-1, and game two 10-0 Eagles.
In game one, Ally Andriano would get the start and pick up the win. She was relieved by Kyra Lightner who finished up the fifth inning. Andriano got 3 strikeouts in her four innings of work and only allowed 2 hits. She did give up one run, however, the offense was rolling for the Eagles and they did not have a problem getting the 8-run advantage throughout the game. Lightner would only have one hit against her in the final inning and she did not allow a run.
The offense for the Eagles had many great moments. Jill Martinet and Hannah Kate Singleton both had home runs in the game. Alanna Dunson and Alexis Teems both had doubles to help the Eagles. Singleton and Dunson would both lead the Eagles in hitting with both going 2 for 2. Kalyn Jinks would go 2 for 3 and Teems would go 2 for 4. The scoring was balanced throughout the first game with the second inning being the only inning the Eagles did not score.
In game two, the Eagles wasted little time getting a lead as they would score seven runs in the bottom of the first inning. In addition, several players got to get game time in this game before it was called after the top of the fifth inning.
Bella Krauth and Whitney Shepherd would team up to pitch this shutout game for the Eagles. Krauth would get the first three innings recording 3 strikeouts and only allowing one hit. Shepherd would come in during the fourth inning and she would have 3 strikeouts as well in her two innings. She did not allow a hit or a run while she was pitching. The two had really great games as they held the Royals down and walked away with an easy game two victory.
The Eagles would put game two away early as they scored seven runs in the bottom of the first. Alexis Teems, Jill Martinet, Hannah Kate Singleton, Alanna Dunson, Lauren Parker, Kaylin Jinks, and Ansley Evans all scored. JJ Trowell and Alexis Griffith would lead the Eagles in RBIs. Trowell would have 3 RBIs and Griffith would have two to help the Eagles quickly make work of the visiting Royals. Alexis Teems and Payton Franklin both had doubles in the game as well.
It was a good series for the Eagles, however, they did have their talent and skill on display to take care of business on games that they should win. Reinhardt would leave no doubt that they were the better team and they were there to do a job. The regular season will come to an end after Thursday's series at CIU and then the Eagles will be ready for the AAC Softball Tournament. More information will be released as all the conference teams wrap up their seasons this week. The tournament will begin next week and the schedule will be posted on ReinhardtEagles.com. Check back over the weekend for updates.
