Waleska, GA - It was a night of pitching duels at Ken White Softball Field on Monday afternoon/evening. Truett McConnell was visiting the Eagles for a conference match-up and they were brining with them a very good 10-1 conference record. All the pitchers for each game were doing great and the Eagles were able to squeak out a run in the first inning of both games. If you look at the box scores - they are almost identical.
Bella Krauth would get the start in the first game and she would hold the Bears scoreless in all seven innings. She would have 2 strikeouts on 9 hits. The Bears did threaten to score a few times, but good defensive plays and tough pitching pulled them through to get the first game win. This would be Krauth's 7th win of the season.
For the Eagles' one run of the game that came in the first inning, Alexis Teems singled to get on base. She stole second and then she scored when Jill Martinet doubled to center field. Teems and Martinet both went 2 for 3 in the first game. The Eagles left five on base throughout the game.
In game two, Ally Andriano would get the start and she would repeat what Krauth did in game one holding the Bears scoreless, however, she did it with a few more strikeouts. Andriano would strikeout 8 batters and only allow 4 hits and no walks. It is really hard to imagine Andriano pitching any better than she did in this game. Truett McConnell could not figure out what Andriano and she was always one step ahead throughout the second game. This would be Andriano's 12th win of the season.
The scoring for the Eagles would be almost exactly the way it happened in the game one score. Alexis Teems would single and then steal second base. Ansley Evans would get a sacrifice hit to move Teems to third and this time it would be Emily Loveless that would hit Teems home. Loveless hit toward the short stop who had trouble handling the ball. Loveless reached on the error and Teems made it home. That would be all that the Andriano and the Eagles needed as they would not allow the Bears to even threaten to get home in the second game. Andriano was just that dominant in this game and it was two more wins for the Eagles.
With Krauth and Andriano making the good one-two combination, they are able to play with anyone and be competitive. The bats could not get it going in this game, but sometimes just getting a single run is just enough to pull out close wins. Look for the Eagles to keep rolling as the visit Union (Ky.) on Wednesday afternoon. The next home game will be Tuesday, April 12th when Point University comes to Reinhardt for a one day series.
