Eagles Split Again on the Road at Kentucky Christian
David Finney
Burkesville, KY - The Eagles are coming off a split with Bryan College on Tuesday this week where they lost the first one and then they came back to win the second game. They would repeat this with the series with Kentucky Christian, however, game one was very close to going in favor of the Eagles. It would take extra innings for the Knights to get the win, 8-7. In the second game, the Eagles would get several multi-run innings which gave them enough to get the win, 6-3.
The Eagles would get great pitching in both games with Bella Krauth going in game one and Ally Andriano pitching in game two. Krauth has a 6-2 record and Andriano is at 11-3 for the Eagles.
Game One
Bella Krauth would be on the mound for game one and she would have 5 strikeouts in the game. She was able to pitch the complete game even into the extra innings. She gave up 10 hits in the game and 6 earned runs. Two of the runs in the game were charged as errors and do not count against Krauth.
The Eagles batters would actually have 16 hits in the game, but it would only result in seven runs. In the second inning, Hannah Kate Singleton would get her first of two home runs for the day. Singleton hit in Jill Martinet on the home run. Martinet had singled to right field earlier in the inning.
The fifth inning was the next big inning for the Eagles. Emily Loveless got on base from a single to center field. Loveless was hit home by Jill Martinet's double. Zoe Porche was brought in to run for Martinet and she would score the second run of the inning on Alanna Dunson's double. Sydney Goddard came in to run for Dunson and she was hit home on a double by Lauren Parker. This would be the final run of the inning putting the Eagles up 5-3.
The Eagles would pick up an additional 2 runs in the sixth and one in the ninth inning. In the sixth, Alexis Teems hit a triple and she was brought home on Alexis Griffith's single to right for the one run of the inning. The Eagles would get one more in the top of the ninth inning which actually put them up by one on the Knights. JJ Trowell would score in the extra innings. Trowell was brought in to pinch-run for Alanna Dunson. Ansley Evans would single to short to get Trowell home putting the Eagles up 7-6 going into the bottom of the ninth.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Eagles would eventually give up two runs which put the game in favor of the Knights.
Game Two
Game Two would be more of what we are used to seeing with the Eagles Softball Team. Emily Loveless would score two runs to lead the Eagles and she would go 1 for 3 in the game. Jill Martinet would have the best batting average going 2 for 3 with one of the hits being a home run. Hannah Kate Single to would get the other home run in the game and she would go 1 for 3 in the game and get 3 RBIs. By the fourth inning, the Eagles had established a good lead that they would not give up in the game.
Ally Andriano would get the start in game two and she would have one of her better games of the season getting 10 strikeouts. She pitched a complete game and held the Knights 3 runs - 2 of which were earned. She gave up one run in the second inning and then two were scored in the bottom of the seventh. The seventh should have ended with no runs being scored, but an error allowed the game to continue and a couple of runs to score.
With Ally Andriano pitching so well, the six runs were plenty for the Eagles to get the win. Jill Martinet would go 2 for 3 in the game and Lauren Parker and Ansley Evans would both go 2 for 4 in the game. The Eagles would walk away with a good win to end the series.
The Eagles have a busy week ahead with games on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. On Monday, the Eagles have a home doubleheader scheduled with Truett McConnell. On Tuesday, the Eagles will be home again for a doubleheader with Brevard College which the Eagles played a few weeks ago. They will finish up their games for the week with a doubleheader with Union in Kentucky. Look for the Eagles to pick up several wins over the next few days.
