Eagles Split in Conference Games with Bryan
David Finney
Dayton, TN - Eagles Softball was on the road on Tuesday afternoon with a conference match-up with the Lions of Bryan College. Game One would go in favor of the Lions, 7-0, as the Eagles had trouble getting hits against tough pitching by the Lions. In Game Two, the bats would get the spark back and the Eagles would get runs across the plate. They were able to take the second game 5-4.
Game One
In the first game, there is not much to add in favor of the Eagles. The Lions had great pitching for this game which was able to hold Reinhardt scoreless and record several strikeouts. Ally Andriano would get the start for the Eagles and she would get in three innings where she would have one strikeout and gave up nine hits and seven runs. Whitney Shepherd came in to pitch the final three innings where she held the Lions to just two hits. She was not able to get a strikeout but did keep them off the board for the final three innings.
The batters for Reinhardt were not able to do much with the pitching in this game, as they were held scoreless in the seven innings. Alexis Teems was able to figure out the pitching and went 2 for 3 in the game. She also had a stolen base. Alanna Dunson and Hannah Kate Singleton both went 1 for 3 in the game and pinch-hitter, Kyra Lightner, came in to go 1 for 1. The Eagles actually had a threat in the top of the seventh with Lightner's hit, but they were not able to get runners home.
Game Two
Bella Krauth got the start for the Eagles in game two and she would have a good game going all seven innings. She was not able to record any strikeouts and gave up eight hits in the game, but she kept the Lions to just four runs in the game which was just enough to get the win.
Several batters for Reinhardt had good days, but Hannah Kate Singleton would shine in this one. She doubled in the second inning and then she hit a solo home run in the fifth which would end up being the winning run. In the first inning, Alexis Teems would lead off with a hit and eventually stole second and third. Teems has amazing speed and can move around the bases like lightning. She set up Emily Loveless to get the first RBI of the game when she singled to push Teems home.
In the second inning, Lauren Parker drew a walk to get on base. Hannah Kate Singleton then hit her double to move Parker to third and then Kalyn Jinks was able to get a single to score Parker. After two innings, the Eagles were up 2-1.
Emily Loveless would lead off with a single in the third inning followed by a single by Jill Marinet. Later, Lauren Parker would single to load the bases. Loveless was able to score on a sac fly by Singleton and Ansley Evans singled to bring in Martinet for the second run of the inning. The Lions were able to pick up a run in the bottom of the third inning, however, Reinhardt would still have a 4-2 lead going into the fourth.
The fifth-inning home run from Singleton would be very big for the Eagles as Bryan was able to get two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Singleton's home run gave the Eagles the 5-4 lead and Krauth was able to keep the Lions off the bases and scoreless in those final two innings giving the Eagles the victory and the split in the series.
The Eagles will have a few days off before they play again on the road at Kentucky Christian on Friday. They have the weekend off before returning home for a Monday afternoon series with Truett McConnell at 5 pm and 7 pm.
