Castillo Shines at the "Live in Lou" Classic
Louisville, KY - Reinhardt Cross Country attended the "Live in Lou" Classic this past Saturday, which is one of the largest cross-country events nationwide. In attendance were all levels of high school and colleges broken up over a two-day period.
The Eagles competed in the NAIA Silver division. Eagles' top runner, Sal Castillo, had a very good meet finishing in 9th position overall in the Silver Division which had over 400 runners. Castillo's time in the Men's 8k was 25:58 with a 5:13 per mile pace. His time makes him the 4th fastest time from a senior in Reinhardt Cross Country history!
Coming in second and third spots for the Eagles were Braniff Mahoney and Jorge Mares with the times of 27:42 and 27:57 respectively. Mahoney finished in 108th position with a 5:35 per mile pace and Mares was 132nd position with a 5:37 per mile pace. This was personal best time for Mares.
Freshman Noah Jones had his best personal time of his young Reinhardt career with a time of 28:19.
Overall, the men's team of 7 total runners finished in 23rd position out of 55 teams.
For the women, Sara James was the top Eagle finisher with a time of 22:48 and a 7:20 per mile pace. She was followed by Sarah Timmerman and MaLeah Heath.
Next up for the Eagles will be the NAIA Appalachian Challenge on October 20th. This will be the final regular season meet for the Eagles' 2023 regular season with just the AAC Championships and the NAIA National Championships left.
