Simon, Castillo, and Vincent all will Move on to the NAIA Championships
WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. - Reinhardt Cross Country competed in the AAC Championships on Friday, Nov. 4th. The event was held at the Par Tee Golf Club in West Columbia, S.C.
The Men's and Women's teams did not receive the automatic berths to the 2022 NAIA National Championship Meet which will take place on November 18th in Tallahassee, Florida, but they were able to get three of their runners qualified as individual participants.
Brooke Simon will be the lone representative for the Women's Team and Salvador Castillo and Tom Vincent will represent the Men's Team.
Competing at the AAC Championships on the women's side was Simon, Carly Harrison, Sarah Timmerman, Abigail Cruz, Brook Villhauer, and Javen Wimberly. The women competed in a 5k event along with 11 other AAC teams with 108 total runners. Simon was able to finish in 18th place overall with the time of 19:22. She was followed by Carly Harrison with the time of 23:06 and Sarah Timmerman with the time of 24:51.
The Men's Team was able to place 4th overall with the solid teams of Milligan, Montreat, and SCAD Atlanta in front of them. The men's side had a total of 93 runners.
Castillo finished in 12th place overall with very talented runners in front of him. Most of these will be some of the top runners when they compete at the Nationals on November 18th. Castillo ran the 8k race with a time of 25:44 and he was followed by Vincent at 26:21 and Braden Ray with a time of 26:38. Castillo was announced to the AAC All-Conference Second Team!
Logan Ray (27:00), Taylor Kendrick (28:04), Will Ort (28:11), and Arat Joanico (28:38) rounded out the times for the Eagles which were all a part of a solid effort to finish in 4th position as a team.
Milligan won both the Women's and Men's AAC Championship and both teams will be moving on to the NAIA Championships along with Montreat who came in second overall for both sides.
