Eagles Claim Third at Virginia Duals
Hampton, VA - Reinhardt Wrestling was able to escape the weekend snow and ice in Georgia by leaving earlier in the week to attend the Virginia Duals. The Eagles had tons of success going 3-1 overall and claiming third place out of nineteen teams attending.
Reinhardt faced Davis-Elkins (NCAA) in their first dual, winning convincingly, 45-9. In the second dual of the day, the Eagles would rack up the score once again - this time against the Blue Jays of Johns-Hopkins University (NCAA) by the score of 39-9. This win moved Reinhardt to the semi-finals of the duals tournament.
In the Semi-Finals, the Eagles faced a tough Kutztown University team from Pennsylvania, a hotbed for college wrestling. The Golden Bears stymied the Eagles with a score of 29-12, giving Reinhardt their first loss of the tournament. This sent Reinhardt to the consolation dual, where the Eagles faced Ferrum College (NCAA) from Virginia. The Eagle walked away with the 34-14 dual win and the third-place trophy for the Virginia Duals.
Several Reinhadt wrestlers had great dual matches. Angel Banda and Lee Camp dominated at 125 and 133 throughout the duals, with Banda going 2-1 and Camp going 3-0. Banda's only loss came from a 5-4 decision at 133 lbs.
Devin Griffen (149) and Matt Jenkins (165) had great days, going 2-0 and 3-0, respectively, with Griffen getting a win versus the #14 Ranked NCAA D-2 wrestler. Jenkins' big win came the #10 Ranked wrestler in NCAA D-2.
Wyatt Higgins (174) and Jonathan Paramore (184) had superb duals matches as well with Higgins going 2-0 in his matches and Paramore going 3-1.
The Eagles will continue their season this Thursday night with their final dual home match for 2025. They will face Emmanuel University at the Brown Athletic Center Gym at 7 pm on Thursday evening. Come out and support the Eagles in their final home event of the year and celebrate the senior's final match on campus.
