RU Wrestling Begins 2024-25 Campaign at the Patriot Open; Griffen and Camp Take Second
Williamsburg, KY - In an impressive display of skill and determination, Reinhardt Wrestling competed in the Patriot Open Tournament hosted by the University of the Cumberlands. Facing off against many top-level NAIA wrestlers, the Eagles showcased strong performances across both the Freshman/Sophomore and Open divisions. It was a good tournament for many wrestlers under Coach Beddard and Coach Lee to get early season action before the dual meets start.
The tournament held at Cumberlands featured notable achievements from Reinhardt athletes, with several wrestlers standing out. In the Freshman/Sophomore division, Reece Meyers earned a commendable third place in the 141 lbs category with a record of 5-2. Liam Neal also had an impressive tournament going 4-2 in his matches.
The Open division saw even more success, with Lee Camp securing second place in the 125 lbs category after a dominant 17-1 TechFall win over a top-ten ranked wrestler, showcasing the skill and intensity he brings to the mat. Additionally, Devin Griffen's climb to second place in the 149 lbs category, with victories over the 16th and 21st-ranked wrestlers, was one of the highest finishes for Reinhardt and a highlight of the tournament. Griffen has been in the shadows the past few seasons, waiting his turn and it appears he is ready to make some noise this season. Similarly, CJ Shadinger and AuShaud Evans performed admirably, finishing fifth and third, respectively.
It was a good showing, and the pieces seem to be falling into place to have several heavy-hitters to go along with All-Americans Trevor Burdick and Matt Jenkins.
The Eagles look to carry this momentum forward as they prepare for their next competition against Truett-McConnell at the Brown Athletic Center on November 8, 2024. Despite holding a current record of 0-0 in dual matches, the team's individual performances signal a promising season ahead for Reinhardt wrestling.
