Six Eagles Place First at Cumberland Open
Lebanon, TN - Reinhardt Wrestling competed at the Cumberland Phoenix Open Wrestling Tournament on Saturday with much success. Six of the wrestlers finished winning their weight class. Most had to win five matches throughout the day to win their bracket.
Those winning their weight class bracket were Domenico DiGena (141), CJ Shadinger (149), Aushaud Evans (157), Jonathan Paramore (184), John Lovett (197), and Armond Jones (285). This was a great showing for Reinhardt Wrestling as they begin to prepare for the postseason wrestling that will start on the weekend of February 17th.
The 157 weight class was very interesting for the Eagles as they had two top wrestlers entered in the bracket. It worked out that both wrestlers - Aushaud Evans and Devin Griffen would work their way through the rounds of the bracket and face each other in the final. Seldom does this work out this way, but Reinhardt has a very talented group of wrestlers at 157 including All-America Trevor Burdick who did not wrestle in this tournament. Evans and Griffen both won their semifinal matches by one point each which moved them into the championship match. The final was a tight one where Evans came out on top with a 4-2 decision and Griffen would finish in second place.
Other wrestles also placed in the open along with some impressive individual records. Please see that list below
The Eagles will compete in the AAC Tournament Championship on the weekend of February 17th at Southeastern University in South Florida. Wrestlers that place in this tournament will qualify for the NAIA Nationals that will take place the weekend of February 29th.
