Eagles Place 4th at Virginia Duals
Hampton, VA - RU Wrestling attending the Annual Virginia Duals on January 12th & 13th with outstanding results. The Virginia Duals is a team event only where teams move along in the tournament by beating them head to head. Reinhardt was able to finish in 4th place overall out of 16 total teams. The field of teams included all levels of collegiate competition (NCAA DI, DII, DIII, and NAIA).
The Eagles started their journey to the semifinals appearance with a matchup with Johns Hopkins University which they beat 44 to 4. In the second round, the Eagles faced Centenary University in a tight matchup where the Reinhardt came out on top 27-20.
The win against Centenary placed the Eagles against the overall #1 team, Alvernia University. Reinhardt came up just short in the match losing 18 to 25. Alvernia would go on to win the championship over Elizabethtown College. The loss in the semifinals placed the Eagles against the other semifinal loser, Averett College. Just like the semifinal matchup, the Eagles would come up just short losing 21-17 giving them the final 4th place spot.
Throughout the tournament, several Eagles had great performances, but three stood out above the rest. All-American Trevor Burdick, Dawson Bates, and Devin Griffen all went 2-0 at the tournament.
The Eagles will be back home this Wednesday evening with a dual match with the University of Montevallo. This will be senior night for the Eagles.
