RU’s Alex Sanchez Earns AAC Defender of the Week - Week One
WALESKA, Ga. - Thoralf Schmelzer of Webber International is the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Volleyball Attacker of the Week, while Alex Sanchez of Reinhardt and Carlos Pinto of Life are the Defender and Setter of the Week, respectively.
The league announced the awards on Monday.
This is the first edition of the awards for the 2024 season. The next set of awards will be announced on Feb. 19.
AAC Attacker of the Week
Thoralf Schmelzer - Webber International - Sophomore - Frankfurt, Germany
- Helped Webber to a 2-0 record.
- Averaged 4.33 kills per set and posted a .347 hitting percentage.
- Logged 16 kills in a 3-0 win over Warner.
- Served up 10 aces on the week, including 8 against Truett McConnell.
- Had 26 kills, 3 digs, and 1 block.
- This is his first weekly honor of the season.
AAC Defender of the Week
Alex Sanchez - Reinhardt - Sophomore - Palma de Mallorca, Spain
- Averaged 3.50 digs per set in helping Reinhardt to a 2-0 record.
- Posted 16 digs twice on the week.
- Registered a serve-receive percentage of .969.
- Also had 2 assists.
- This is his first weekly honor of the season.
AAC Setter of the Week
Carlos Pinto - Life - Freshman - Planalto, Brazil
- Averaged 11.17 assists per game in helping Life to a 2-0 record on the week.
- Posted 67 assists on the week.
- Had 6 digs, 7 kills, and 3 blocks on the week.
- This is his first weekly honor of the season.
