Eagles Sweep Campbellsville in Season Opener!
Waleska, GA - RU Men's Volleyball got their 2023 season underway on Friday evening against Campbellsville. The Eagles took three straight in an impressive start to the season winning 25-20, 25-17, and 25-21 in the three sets.
The Eagles led from start to finish in the three sets against the #15 ranked team in the NAIA. The sets were tight most of the way, but the Eagles never were rattled and played cool and calm all the way through.
Bruno Dewes was the leader on the floor for the Eagles and set up his guys to have impressive stats. One of those was Victor Pacheco who had a very impressive game with 11 kills and ZERO errors. Often Pacheco would be the one that would get the necessary kill to put a stop to a Campbellsville run.
Another player that had a breakout game in his first appearance in a Reinhardt Eagle uniform was Rodolfo Biegeimeyer who was all over the court making plays. He led the Eagles with 13 kills with 6 errors and a .304%.
Coach Goodhind had this to say about the first win of the season, "Great start to the season, very proud of the guys! It was pretty awesome being back on the sidelines coaching and I was impressed with how our guys truly played together; from our incredible Club Eagle bench to our players on the floor! Shout out to our crowd as they were a big part of this Win with their incredible energy!! At the end of the day we went 1-0 and we will try to go 1-0 v Rio Grande. To God Goes All The Glory!"
Dalton Fellow, Chase Cross, Christian De Leon, and John Hynes had great games as well supporting Biegeimeyer and Pacheco in kills and blocks. The Eagles have a multitude of big men that can all step up when needed to get a kill or block to crush an opponent's run.
Dewes led the Eagles in assists with 28 total and he also added 2 kills. Alex Sanchez led the way in digs with 12 total and Cross backed him up with 8 digs.
The Eagles will have to put this home opening win behind them fast as they will turn right around on Saturday morning to face Rio Grande at 11 am at the Brown Athletic Center. Their second game of the day will be at 4 pm versus Morehouse College. Come out and support the Eagles tomorrow as they try to get their record to 3-0 by the end of the day.
