WALESKA, Ga. – St. Andrews (N.C.) avenged the 3-1 loss the Eagles handed them in early February on Thursday by sweeping Reinhardt, 28-26, 25-23, 25-19.
The loss gives the hometown team an 11-10 regular-season record with a 9-7 mark in the Mid-South Conference.
"Tonight, we celebrated our seniors, Ryan and Seth – both who have been instrumental in getting this program up and going," head coach CJ Shearer said. "I cannot thank them enough for all the hard work they have given to this program. Not the result we wanted, but we will go back to the drawing board and right the ship for the Conference Tournament.
"Everything goes to God."
Though Reinhardt suffered a loss on the day, it was able to keep all three sets very close. In fact, the Eagles led in game one at the end, 26-25, until three-consecutive kills by the visitors ended the set.
Game two ended in similar fashion with St. Andrews putting away Reinhardt with two-straight kills to close it out.
The Knights carried the momentum into set three and led wire-to-wire in a six-point win over the Eagles.
Though their team didn't get the victory, Victor Pacheco and Chase Cross both had nice outings.
Pacheco notched 18.5 points: 15 kills, three digs, two aces and 1.5 blocks while Cross pitched in 10 points (5 kills, 4 aces, 2 assists, 2 assisted blocks and a dig).
Overall, the Eagles were held to a .089 hitting percentage and they allowed the Knights to rack up 43 kills and seven blocks compared to 26 kills and five blocks they put up themselves.
MSC Championship details will soon be announced when they are made available.
