WALESKA, Ga. – The serving line was kind to the Eagles on Saturday as they recorded a program-best 14 aces – seven by Chase Cross – to propel them to a 3-0 sweep over Midway (Ky.) in the final bout of Mid-South Conference (MSC) pod play, 25-16, 25-18, 25-23, inside the Brown Athletic Center.
The hometown team is back over .500 at 6-5 overall and improved to 5-2 within the league after going 2-1 over the weekend.
"Today was a big step for the team as we talk about the flow of a match all the time and how important it is to control that," head coach CJ Shearer said. "Today was the best this program has flowed in an entire match. I absolutely credit the work and focus the guys have been putting in, and as a coach, it was amazing to sit back and watch that unfold today. Also, it was great to get a program-record 14 aces in a match, along with Chase Cross' individual record of seven.
"Everything goes to God, and we look forward to Carolina University on Tuesday."
Both teams hit well on the afternoon, but it was Reinhardt who was just another level above the visiting Eagles by totaling a .403 hitting percentage for the match. Individually, Matthew Corrales (.647; 12 kills in 17 tries) helped his group soar to three-straight positive outcomes.
Corrales also led the way in digs with a half-dozen.
Not far behind was Cross, who was strong in all phases of the match with seven kills and four digs (along with the seven aces and hitting .267). Victor Pacheco chipped in with six scores and five defensive receptions – and four aces – while collecting a .286 percentage.
Ricardo Mujica recorded all 29 assists in the contest and the Eagles committed just seven combined errors in the three sets.
Carolina (N.C.) welcomes the hometown club on Tuesday night for a 7 p.m. clash.
