Men's Volleyball Returns Home Against NCAA Division II Emmanuel (Ga.)
By Mike DeVader, Reinhardt Director of Athletic Communications & Media
WALESKA, Ga. – The atmosphere was strong inside the Brown Athletic Center after men's volleyball returned home for the first time in five matches to host NCAA Division II Emmanuel (Ga.) on Thursday night, but the visiting Lions withstood a pesky Eagles bunch in a 3-0 win, 21-25,23-25,18-25.
"The stats don't show it, but tonight was a big step in what we are trying to establish here as a culture," head coach CJ Shearer said. "We had the whole team having as much fun and giving their all on each play; something we have been looking to get all year. We proved we could do that and hang with a talented and well-coached team. I could not be prouder of these boys than the things I saw tonight for our culture. To God goes all the Glory."
Gerald Moore (.556) was one of three players who claimed five kills on the night – Chase Cross (.333) and Matthew Corrales (.125) joined him – as Reinhardt put up 21 attacking scores against Emmanuel, but hurt its cause with 17 errors.
The offensive numbers were widespread throughout the lineup, as were the assist totals, with five student-athletes helping put teammates in the right position to score.
Ricardo Mujica had a team-high 11 assists and Dylan Crooke gathered seven dimes.
Defensively, Reynaldo Medina scooped up eight digs to pace the Eagles. Mujica grabbed four digs as well, and on the block, Reinhardt had 13 total rejections.
John Hynes and Dalton Fellows were each credited with a trio of assisted blocks.
The club now looks ahead to a visit from NAIA No. 10 Aquinas (Mich.) on March 9 at 7 p.m.
