David Friedberg Set to Throw this Friday at the U.S. Track & Field Olympic Team Trials
Eugene, OR - The three-time NAIA Javelin Throw National Champion, David Friedberg, is packing his bags and heading to Oregon for the U.S. Track & Field Team Trials this week. On Tuesday, June 18th, Friedberg and Reinhardt Throws Coach - Josh White are making the cross-country trek to compete among the greatest athletes in the world for a chance for a spot on the 2024 U.S. Summer Olympic Team. The 2024 Summer Games will be in Paris, France taking place in July.
Friedberg and White have been practicing nonstop since the NAIA National Championships finished up in late May where he won his third straight NAIA Javelin title. He qualified for the U.S. Track and Field Javelin Throw in mid-April when he threw 76.08 meters which put him in the top eight throwers of any American at any level this year. Friedberg threw the record throw at the Berry College Field Day meet in Rome, Georgia and it set the all-time NAIA record for the Javelin.
Friedberg will be among twenty-four American throwers set to compete in two different 12-man groups. The qualifying rounds are scheduled to start at 6:30 pm EST on Friday, June 21st. If he advances, he will throw in the finals set for Sunday, June 22ndat 9:40 pm.
How the Qualifying Rounds Work:
The way the qualifying rounds work is that the 24 throwers are broken up into 2 12-man groups. Each athlete will get 3 throws and 3 throws only. The top 12 throwers come back on June 23 for the finals. In the finals, all 12 get 3 throws - then the top 8 get 3 more. All rounds will be broadcast live on the Peacock App (with some possible highlights on NBC's primetime broadcast each night). NBC Peacock Network
This is a huge achievement for David Friedberg, Coach Josh White, Reinhardt Track & Field, and Reinhardt University. What he has accomplished over the past three years is truly amazing; his hard work and determination have paid off with the honor of competing at the U.S. Track & Field level. Friedberg will represent Reinhardt and the state of Georgia well just as he has done the past years as a student-athlete. The competition level is very high at this level, but Friedberg has plans to continue his training with Coach White going forward to see if he can move his way up the standings with a chance to compete for the 2028 Olympics which will take place in the United States. Compared to the other athletes in this group, Friedberg is just in the infancy of the sport. An amazing fact about David Friedberg is that he had never picked up a Javelin until his freshman year of college and did not start training seriously in the sport until Coach White came to Reinhardt during his sophomore year. His potential and upside is very great!
David Friedberg is a four-year varsity letterman in Reinhardt University Football and Track & Field. Reinhardt University is extremely proud of him and all of his accomplishments. We are behind David Friedberg all the way!
