David Friedberg Shines at AAC Championships
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - The Eagles Track & Field team competed in the AAC Outdoor Championships this past weekend and finished in fifth place overall. They had several top two and three place finishers and one overall champion (1st Place). By finishing in the top three of the events, the athletes are automatically awarded All-Conference status.
• David Friedberg was the overall champion in Javelin with a distance of 56.52m. This mark was over 10 meters better than the second-place finisher.
• The Men's 4x400 team came in second place overall with a time of 3:19.07. The members of the 4x400 team are Alex Jean, Braden Ray, Jalen Everett, and Tyler Hallum.
• Austin Wright placed second in pole vault hitting the mark of 4.20m.
• Trisstan Weddington placed second in the long jump with a distance of 7.13m.
• Andrew Paolozzi finished in third place in the hammer throw with a distance of 45.34m. Paolozzi also finished in 4th place at shot put with a distance of 13.90m and sixth in the discus with the mark of 41.60m.
Reinhardt had hoped for a higher finish than fifth, but with some midseason injuries, the overall outcome was not bad. Coach Turner had this to say about the meet, "Up and down AAC meet for our entire squad. We came in with less than 100% of our group healthy and it showed with our 5th place team finish on the men's side. I hate moral victories after a subpar performance but we had scorers in every event we contested on the men's side and Tyler, Braden, Salvador, Brody, Jalen, and Andrew all scored in multiple events. That's a positive sign - we have the guys to do what it takes to be competitive going forward. We had all our women contribute to the team score and that makes it a successful meet for them."
The Eagles have a couple of weeks left with a few meets to improve on times and distances with everything looking towards qualifying for nationals. The NAIA National Championships will be held in the last week in May.
