MARIETTA, Ga. – (Results) For the second time this season, Eagle track and field traveled just down the road to Life (Ga.) to compete in the Running Eagles Open on Saturday.
The Reinhardt men were to finish in third place with 91 points, while the women collected 36 tallies to place sixth out of 10 squads.
"Another great weekend for our group as we had more folks notch conference qualifying marks and some good personal bests at the right time headed into the AAC Championships next weekend," head coach Jordan Turner said. "We had 32 of our total 42 athletes in our program hit an AAC mark during the indoor portion of our season, so we are taking a large group back to the conference meet again this year.
"Depth is the key in our conference as good as the AAC is, and we have some really good marks in many of those groups; we need to step up big next weekend. Our pole vault crew really had a nice weekend as all four – Luis, Austin, Madison and Nicole – all had or equaled season bests. Luis sits fourth in the conference and Nicole is third, so lots to look forward to at the AAC meet. Johnny and Andrew had another solid weekend in the throws for us and placed well (1st and 3rd) in a heavy NCAA Division I field in the hammer throw Friday night."
The team is excited to see how it stacks up at a loaded AAC meet where 16 of 20 events have a national qualifier on the men's side and 11 of 20 on the women's side.
The AAC Championships Meet takes place on Friday.
